Well, that was lots of fun in the sun, to say the least! Jennifer Stewart from Berthon’s USA office was on hand, and flying the Berthon flag! It was not a difficult week, sailing on board the incredibly lovely yacht NAIA, a Swan 62, dark blue hull, which coincidentally was also sold to the owners by Berthon! Bob and Kristin are great hosts, and as full time liveaboards, they know their boat. Jamestown Boat Yard also on hand running NETTIE as the committee boat and race committee – and did a great job once again.
Monday was BERTHON’s welcoming beach BBQ, held in the beach pavilion at Nanny Cay Marina. After the welcoming remarks, the noise volume rose substantially, with all the owners and friends reconnecting after the summer season in their home ports. About 12 SWANS participated, with several more in the marina joining the other boats for day sails. The Owners Association has done a very good job balancing the sailing and social events, and heaven forbid leaving the dock before 11 a.m.! Lots of boat hopping when another owner needs help for the day, just in general a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere.
Day Two was the Race to Norman Island, and the trophies of the day also awarded by Berthon, hand made/carved bowls for using on board, and the owner of the Swan 48 AFFINITY stated, “it was the best trophy he had ever received, he can actually use it on his boat!” Again, another fantastic venue right on the beach – the only problem was the lurking WILLY T’s on the other side of the harbor, to which several of our group fell victim…need any more be said. Another late start in order to have a little snorkeling time in the morning!
Day Three was sponsored by Nautor’s Swan, with a race from Norman Island to Spanishtown, picture perfect day, lots of sea turtles and flying fish, and enormous tarpons hanging out under the boat. COCOMAYA is definitely a must next time you are in the area, tapas and suishi, unbelievable and a gorgeous sunset view. Robert Holm, Nautor’s Customer Care Manager, was on hand to offer technical assistance, and to present the champagne and rum to the day’s winners!
Day Three was back to Nanny Cay, not much wind, but no one seemed to care all that much – the sun was shining, the water was sparkling, and no one was in the office, perfect! Day Four was a Lay Day, and a nice motor sail over to Joost van Dyke for a day of swimming and relaxing on board AFFINITY. Day Five was the closing day race and event, lots of sunburns and smiles, thanks again to the Swan Owners Association and Jamestown Boat Yard for all the work that it takes to run these events! Berthon is pleased to be able to support these events which are even more reasons to use your gorgeous yacht in beautiful places. See you next year!
