LEDA is one of the last of the popular Frers designed Nautor Swan 40s. She is the 53rd out of 58 of this model produced between 1994 and 2002. LEDA is still with her first owner, and has only been used for day sailing in Martha’s Vineyard in summer months. She has never been slept in! Over the years, she has undergone many expensive upgrades to make the yacht easier to sail short handed.
The biggest upgrade was replacing the standard Swan aluminum mast with a Hall spars carbon, hydraulic powered in mast furling rig, done in 2001.The traveller, normally in the cockpit on this model, was moved to the bridge deck. A bow thruster was added.
LEDA was stored inside at the Vineyard every winter, and from 2017 to 2021 was not launched. Because she was unused for several years, in 2022, she was taken to Jamestown Boatyard and had a full systems refit to the tune of over US$100,000. Standing rigging replaced, decks refurbished, plumbing, engine and systems all gone through.
After many years of chartering Swans, it was always my dream to build and own a Swan. We have loved LEDA, and she sails absolutely beautifully. The kids are now grown, and we have sold our summer base on Martha’s Vineyard, so LEDA is not getting the use that she should. Reluctantly, it is time to pass her to a new owner.
