JAVA is a very unique Nautor Swan 43. She is, we believe, the only Swan 43 with the extended aft deck, providing a huge amount of below deck storage, plenty of room for a generator installation, and also room for dinghy davits. She is both US duty and VAT paid (note that boat must be in EU waters for VAT to be retained). Her teak decks were sourced over a period of six months by the yard, and carefully laid over the next six months, and are in superb condition.

This owner has not really used the boat over the last ten years, but still upgrades the boat, runs the mechanics every year and services the engine and genset as needed. She has just been launched to check the systems, and then put back on land. Her safety gear is almost all new, including the liferaft and EPIRB still in their boxes.

This is a lovely boat for a couple to head off cruising, it has everything you would need.

Owner's Comments

I purchased the then SCOTTISH HERO (Swan 43/112 Ron Holland) in December 2006. She was lying in Port Grimaude, France. Her former and only owner was British. The yacht needed updating in many areas. For insurance purposes, I hired Eric A. Ogden to do a survey. I had looked at Swans for many years and this yacht was perfect for my needs regarding length, draft and accommodations.

I kept the boat in British registered to preserve the VAT paid status and moved her under her own power to Monaco Marine Boatyard, Les Marines de Cogolin, France. I have a home in Nice and as a 6 metre owner, I had used the yard before under their former owner. The yard was very experienced in metre boats, so this was a logical choice. The refit was extensive as I wanted a yacht that could go to sea comfortably with no drama. The decks were replaced artisinally with 12mm teak carefully purchased. All standing and running rigging was replaced. The primary winches were replaced with Lewmar 64 power winches. New Cuben fibre sails (main and headsail) along with a new reaching spinnaker were built by Europe Sails in Geneva, who I know from the 6 metre world. A Rechman roller furler was installed. New Furuno instruments were added (Navnet2, radar, bottom machine, VHF) in addition to the current Brookes instruments. The interior cushions and mattresses were replaced by a firm in Beaulieu Sur Mer. The gas oven was removed and replaced with a Miele induction cook top and a Miele microwave oven. Sea Gull water filters were installed at the galley and head sinks. A Desalinator water maker was installed. Both heads had black water holding tanks. The yacht has a KVH television dome installed. A 5 KW Onan generator was installed. The Yammer engine was removed during the refit, sent to Yammer France for full inspection, serviced, painted and reinstalled. Fresh engine mounts were installed and the propshaft was rebalanced. New spreaders were built by Nautor along with a new rudder bearing, and were installed by Nautor in Villefranche.

I sailed the yacht in southern France for a few years and then shipped her to Newport, RI on Dockwise. US importation taxes were paid, however the yacht sails with British registration to preserve VAT tax paid. Seasonal cruising permits are obtained through the USCG in Newport, RI.

During the past year all the safety gear has been replaced and certified. This includes a new inflatable raft, new crew inflatable PFDs, a man overboard module, new flare package and new EPIRB. In addition, new batteries and bilge pump have been installed.

The yacht has been stored and maintained at the Jamestown Boatyard.
