Broker's Comments

ENGELEN is a beautiful example of the popular Sweden Yachts 36 series, of which 74 were built between 1984 and 1992. Designed by the renowned Swedish designer, Peter Norlin, and built during the golden era of Sweden Yachts, the Sweden Yachts 36 is renowned for its exceptional build quality, excellent sailing characteristics, and timeless Scandinavian design.

ENGELEN’s moderate displacement hull, elegant lines, and well-balanced sail plan deliver a responsive and confident sailing experience, whether coastal cruising or on offshore passages. She tracks well, handles predictably in a range of conditions, and is a delight to helm with a smooth, stable ride.

Below deck, ENGELEN’s luxurious mahogany interior features a spacious V-berth forward, comfortable saloon, well-equipped galley, and an aft cabin with a double and single berth. The fine craftmanship, beautiful cabinetry, and excellent use of space create a warm and inviting interior, rarely found on modern cruising sailboats.

ENGELEN has spent most of its life in the USA but did a transatlantic crossing and spent a few years in the Med while its owner was based in Brussels. Since returning to the USA, ENGELEN has been kept in the Chesapeake and has benefited from numerous upgrades including:

  • New D1 30 Volvo diesel and sail-drive (2020).
  • Teak decks replaced with new glued down half-inch thick teak (2015).
  • Topsides repainted with Awlgrip (2015).
  • Standing rigging replaced (2009).
  • New Quantum Genoa and Mainsail (2024).
  • New 9” Raymarine Axiom chartplotters installed at helm and nav. station (2024).
  • New Raymarine radar (2024).
  • i70 instrument displays over companionway (2023).
  • Lazy jacks (2024) and main halyard (2026).
  • All rope clutches replaced (2024).
  • New house and engine batteries (2025).

ENGELEN is ready to continue her legacy with a new owner who appreciates a well-built yacht with classic appeal and proven capability.

Owner's Comments

We had been combing through the sailboat ads for a few years, but few boats looked promising or sparked an interest in either of us. From the moment we saw Engelen at the end of the dock, we were smitten. Her lines were beautiful and she felt steady beneath our legs. Little did we fathom how well she would sail, slipping into a groove, sails full and spray flying from the bow the first time we set sail with gusts of 30 knots. Over the years, we have enjoyed the way she sails so much so that we’ve ignored our expanded family needing more room in the cockpit and cabin. It hasn’t been an easy decision to put her up for sale, but we’re hoping someone will love her like we’ve done.
